National occupational standards in CAM

| February 8, 2010 | 0 Comments | 365 views

In the UK, an independent national training organisation, Healthwork UK, is assessing training needs for some professions within the health care sector. Its declared aim with regard to CAM is to assist practitioners in each area of CAM to work together to set high standards of practice, ensure quality education and training, and promote effective self-regulation. They recommend the establishment of a single lead body for each therapy that should represent at least 80% of the CAM practitioners currently practising a particular therapy. So far, national occupational standards have been published in aromatherapy, hypnotherapy, reflexology and homoeopathy (Healthwork UK, 1999, 2000). Healthwork UK has entered into discussions with the key UK acupuncture organisations about education and training standards.
